Osun state police command on Monday arraigned two persons, Idowu Salami and Opeyemi Popoola before an Osogbo Magistrates Court, for allegedly beating an ASP, Adeleke Adewale, inside a police station in the state capital.

The defendants also allegedly stole four singlets valued N1200 belonging to one Francis Ezekwere.

They were docked before Magistrate Asimiyu Adebayo on six counts bordering on conspiracy, assault, threat to life, malicious damage.

Police prosecutor, Rasaq Olayiwola told the court that the defendants on September 8 and 9, 2020 conspired to beat the ASP at Oja-Oba police station and threatened to kill him while performing his duty.

He added that the duo also stole the said singlets and damaged one of it.

According to the prosecutor, the offences committed by the defendants and others now at large are contrary to and punishable under sections 516, 390(9), 356(5), 86(1) and 451 of criminal code cap 34 Vol. II laws Of Osun state of Nigeria 2002.

The duo, who had earlier been arraigned on September 10, 2020 before the court, pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

Their counsel, Barrister Kehinde Adepoju, in his oral bail application urged the court to allow the defendants bail on the existing conditions under their previous arraignment.

Presiding Magistrate, Mr Adebayo granted the application and ruled that the defendants continue to enjoy bail under the preexisting condition and adjourned the matter till September 8, 2021 for hearing.
